Lesley Batchelor OBE has been elevated to a CBE in this year’s New Year’s Honours list in recognition of her work promoting International Trade and helping UK businesses navigate the trading environment and, much needed, export economic growth in readiness for the new post Brexit opportunities.
The award follows on from her 2014 OBE, since which time she has continued to break new ground in professionalising international trade within the UK, supporting and mentoring a new generation of executives in the industry.
Commenting on the award Lesley said,
“Now, more than ever, it is important that UK businesses understand the regulations and business tools available to succeed on the international stage. I am delighted that this award recognises this, and it makes me more determined than ever to continue my crusade to educate and support those who trade internationally. I send my heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported me on my journey so far.”
After leaving school at 16, Lesley has forged a successful career in International Trade, working with blue-chip companies and organisations including Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals, Fujitsu and Coca-Cola Europe while studying professional qualifications in her spare time. In 1992 she set up a consultancy to help smaller businesses working on government projects from Scottish Enterprise, UKTI (now DIT) and EBRD to local based projects to boost the SME knowledge of International Trade. This has proved invaluable over recent years as the impact of Brexit and the many changes has hit businesses both large and small.
Lesley’s commitment has been seen over many years and the impact of her work is helping businesses today. In 2019 Lesley launched exportbootcamps.com, a training resource highlighting international opportunities and enabling businesses to learn for themselves how to focus on new export market growth.
This year she has launched Export-Angels.com which is a truly innovative way to break down the silos that traditionally support those who trade internationally. Starting with a Situation Analysis and offering advice and services throughout the journey to making the first sale in a new market. Truly acting as Export-Angels. Research to Revenue from one resource. Lesley is also passionate about International Women’s Day is now runs an annual event working with the Worshipful Company of World Traders, where she is a court assistant, and the Goodenough College to produce a truly eclectic and powerful celebration of women’s achievements.
